SHE FINISHES THE SEASON #2 ON THE ALL-TIME LIST. TESS WASOWICZ (2:17.6), JOHANNA DIBUZ (2:19.8), SARAH MCINTOSH (2:18.2), AND BECCA SUND (2:21.2) RAN A SEASON BEST OF 9:17.42 TO PLACE 4TH. THE PIRATES HAVE NOW PLACED 4TH IN THIS EVENT 16 OF THE LAST 20 YEARS. FRESHMAN, MEG JUMP CONCLUDED HER FINE SEASON BY JUMPING 36' 4.75" TO PLACE 11TH IN THE TRIPLE JUMP. SHE ENDS THE SEASON AS #2 ALL-TIME LESS THAN AN INCH OFF THE SCHOOL RECORD. WITH A 10TH PLACE FINISH, THE PIRATES ARE THE ONLY TEAM IN ILLINOIS TO PLACE IN TOP 10 EACH OF THE LAST TEN YEARS. PALATINE OUTDOOR EFFORTS POSTED (CLICK TOP OUTDOOR EFFORTS 2010 ON THE RIGHT) PALATINE INVITE HAS THREE STATE BEST EFFORTS Illinois' best effort were achieved by Palatine's Ruth Allen (2:14.7 in 800), Hoffman Estates' Haley Goers (5:01.8 in 1600) and Precious Ogunleye of Hoffman (42' 9" in Shot Put) at the Palatine Invite on Saturday. Palatine's 3200 m. relay of Tess Wasowicz, Emily Schulte, Laura Schweikert, and Marlena Ruthe took first on varsity with a new fresh-soph school record of 9:52.6. Schweikert came back to win the 400 in a fast 59.2. Meghan Flanagan won the pole vault at 10' 6" and the 1600 m. relay of Flanagan, Sarah McIntosh, Becca Sund, and Morgan Quinnett won the gold medal. In JV action, freshman Taylor Tenca earned first places in both the high hurdles and 200; sophomore Ellen Smith won the 1600, and freshman Megan O'Brien won the discus. Earlier in the week, freshman Meg Jump went 35'11" in the triple jump to set a new freshman school record. Her effort is one of the top in Illinois and the third best in Palatine history. PALATINE WINS RITTER INVITE FOR 9TH TIME IN 10 YEARS. Trailing going into the 1600 m. relays, the Pirates responded. First, the fresh-soph group of Meg Jump, Marlena Ruthe, Taylor Tenca, and Laura Schweikert took 1st with a meet record. Then, the varsity team of Valere Guertin, Morgan Quinnett, Ruth Allen, and Rebecca Korus had a great race to place 2nd. Earlier, the 3200 m. relay of Tess Wasowicz, Johanna Dibuz, Sarah McIntosh, and Becca Sund started the evening with a first place. Ruth Allen won for the second consecutive year in the 800. PIRATES REPEAT WINNERS AT JJK RELAYS With the scored tied heading into the last event, the 1600 m. relay, Laura Schweikert, Meg Jump, Morgan Quinnett, and Ruth Allen each ran seaon pr's as Palatine placed 5th in 4:04.9 to edge E. St. Louis for the team title, 106-101. Courtney Brown ran a 5:06.8 1600 to lead the distance medley to 1st in a meet record. Allen teamed with Sarah McIntosh, Johanna Dibuz, and Tess Wasowicz to win the 3200 m. relay in a meet record. And Emily Schulte finished 1st in the 3200, as Becca Sund placed 2nd. The Pirates, also, placed two performers each in the pole vault, long jump, shot put, and discus. PALATINE WINS MSL INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP With 1st places from Courtney Brown (3200), Laura Schweikert (200), Meg Jump (triple jump), the 800 relay (Schweikert, Valere Guertin, Morgan Quinnett, Meghan Flanagan) and the 3200 relay (Tess Wasowicz, Johanna Dibuz, Sarah McIntosh, Becca Sund), the Pirates scored 122 points to win. Palatine, also, received 2nd places from Deviin Mabry (shot put), Rebecca Korus triple jump), Ruth Allen (800 in a new school record) , Meghan Flanagan (high hurdles), and Schweikert (55). 3rd places were: Guertin (long jump), Flanagan (pole vault), McIntosh (1600). Also, earning places were: Wasowicz (1600), Quinnett (high hurdles amd 400), Jump (long jump), Robin Anderson (high jump), and the 1600 relay (Allen, Flanagan, Jump, Korus).

Sophomore, Laura Schweikert broke the sophomore indoor school record in the 400 as she won in 60.4. About 25 minutes later she came back to break Brianna Officer's varsity record in the 200 as she ran 25.3. The Pirates took the first four places in the 1600 as Sarah McIntosh, Ruth Allen, Tess Wasowicz, and Courtney Brown all ran 5:23 or better. Meghan Flanagan jumped 9' 4" in the pole vault and ran 8.9 in the high hurdles for 2nd place in both. Deviin Mabry won the shot put and the 3200 m. relay turned in one of the top times in the state with a 9:36.6 as Allen, Wasowicz, McIntosh, and Brown ran well as the Pirates took first. January 12, 2009 - Parks and Currins honored as 2009 Coaches of the Year
Last Saturday, January 9th, Coach Currins and Coach Parks were each honored as 2009 Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches of the Year. Coach Currins was named 2009 Class AA Girls Track Coach of the Year for helping lead the Lady Pirates to a runner-up finish at the IHSA State Meet last spring. This was the eighth time Coach Currins has been awarded this honor. Coach Parks was awarded 2009 Class AAA Cross Country Coach of the Year after the Lady Pirates won the state title in his first year of as head coach at Palatine. This is his second time winning this award. This was one of the only, if not the only, times a school has had their track and cross country coaches each honored in the same year.
The coaches would like to thank all the girls for their hard work and dedication, as these awards are attributed greatly to the success of the athletes. They would also like to thank Ruth Allen, Courtney Brown, and Sarah McIntosh for coming and supporting the coaches as they received their awards last Saturday
